Use Intune to deploy Microsoft 365 Apps – Manage apps and data

Use Intune to deploy Microsoft 365 Apps

You can also use Intune to deploy Microsoft 365 Apps; this skill was covered earlier in this chapter in “Add Microsoft 365 apps.”

Gather Microsoft 365 Apps readiness data

Before you can deploy Microsoft 365 Apps to your users’ devices, you must ensure that their devices are ready for those apps. Microsoft 365 Apps currently aligns with Office 2019 applications. Therefore, before you can deploy Office 365 Apps, you should verify that your users’ devices support the current version. Also, there might be compatibility issues with older versions of Office documents and newer versions of the apps.

Many organizations use Office add-ins to help automate Office-based tasks. These add-ins might not be compatible with Microsoft 365 Apps. To help you identify potential add-in compatibility issues within your organization, you can use the Readiness Toolkit to assess your organization’s readiness for Microsoft 365 Apps.

Note Readiness Toolkit for Office Add-Ins and VBA

To download the Readiness Toolkit, visit the following website at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55983.

To use the Readiness Toolkit, your computers must meet the following requirements:

  • Windows 7 SP1 or a newer operating system
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 or newer
  • Excel 2010 or newer to view the reports

After installing the Readiness Toolkit, you can decide what type of report you want to run. Available options are detailed in Table 4-4.

TABLE 4-4 Readiness Toolkit reporting options

You can then choose either a basic or an advanced report. Advanced reports are recommended because they provide more complete information on which to base your decisions. The Readiness Report Creator tool generates an Excel spreadsheet consisting of a number of worksheets. Each worksheet contains information about different aspects of your existing devices’ compatibility.

Depending on the report type, the following worksheets are available:

  • VBA Overview
  • VBA Summary
  • VBA Results
  • VBA Remediation
  • VBA References
  • Add-In Summary
  • Add-In Details
  • By Computer Name
